19 film associations have no objection to import of Hindi films subject to conditions.

 

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Hasan Mahmood has been told by the leaders of 19 organizations related to films that they have agreed on the question of importing Hindi movies in Bangladesh theaters subject to conditions.

Dhaka film producers, theater owners, directors, actors and crews have agreed on the question of importing Hindi movies in theaters of Bangladesh subject to conditions. Leaders of 19 film-related organizations told Minister Hasan Mahmud at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Sunday afternoon that they have no objection to the import of Hindi films. Morcha Sammilit Film Parishad of 19 organizations raised four proposals including import of Hindi movies.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud said, "We will take action according to your proposal. The matter should also be brought to the notice of the Prime Minister. I told him that you will come today. We can now take effective action.

Last month, Dhaka-based distribution company Action Cut Entertainment applied to import Shahrukh Khan's Pathan under the SAFTA agreement. The Import-Export Committee of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting sat in the meeting while discussing the matter. But the movie got stuck due to policy complications. The information minister gave this news after a month.

According to Hasan Mahmud, "After many years of effort, everyone in the film industry has agreed to import a certain number of Indian Hindi films subject to certain conditions. Congratulations to them for this. I am also in favor of certain amount of import, our industry will suffer with free import.

Hall owners have been demanding the import of Hindi movies for several years. However, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting has always been saying that they have no objection if all organizations of FDC agree on importation. In the meantime, the leaders of 19 organizations of FDC, including artists' associations, have agreed on the issue of movie import, which was officially informed to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting yesterday.

Demands have been raised for allocation of Tk 200 crore from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 1000 crore loan fund for movie theaters without movie import, reform of joint production policy and relaunch of FDC in search of a new face.

Information and Broadcasting Secretary Humayun Kabir Khondkar, Film Directors Association President Kazi Hayat, Artists Association General Secretary Nipun Akhtar and member Riaz, Exhibitors Association President Kazi Shoaib Rashid, Vice President Mia Alauddin, Producers and Distributors Association representatives Khorshed Alam and Mohammad Hossain, Film Club President Kamal Mohammad Kibria and Joint Film Council Member Secretary Shah Alam Kiran.
